Despite the tragic effects of heavy and prolonged alcohol consumption, our society glamorizes the addictive substance. Four common consequences of this include Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder, Liver Disease, Pancreatitis, and an increased risk for several cancers.1 The pattern above depicts CH3CH2OH, the compound ethanol. This is alcohol as ingested, before it is metabolised into the toxic compound acetaldehyde.
